I have seen this amp before and if I had the money then I would have seriously looked into it, I have it now. I am a bit confused what difference in tone this amp will have .vs the othe Marshall JTM/45 40th ann. Both are 100 watts and use KT66 tubes. Are they the same amp or are there significant tonal differences between them? I know they can be found if you google either I find some.

There are tonal differences between them because the power sections differ substantially. One is not better than the other just different. The JTM45/100 40th anniversary also uses the traditional JTM45 tone stack values. That semi open back top cab and the alnico speakers also make a difference.

They are both great stacks with their own personalities.

With the 40th anniversary you also have the luxury of being able to use only one of the 50W output sides if you want.

Dude, This is the most difficult question I have ever encountered on a forum. There is no right (or wrong) answer. You have a Super100JH (Which is the only amp I have ever played thru that induces "ear-gasm". But I have only witnessed another person playing thru a 45/100 and while it sounded like pure musical bliss, I would have to play through it myself to fully be able to A/B the two. BTW I don't own either, but u, my friend, have in your possession something that is as close to perfection (if not true perfection) as I have ever seen or heard talk of. The Super100JH is beyond an amplifier. It's a work of art. Thank you again, Steve!

Isn´t the tone stack on the Super 100JH modded like the later Plexis? Wasn´t it a mod that later became standard?

Yes, but the later Plexis (JMP) weren't just earlier Plexis (JTM) with the tone stack modded.

More differencies i guess.

The jh has slightly more mids than the 45/100 40th which is a little more hifi sounding. but both fantastic amps i am really lovin the cleans on these amps, i would go with 40th as there were only 250 made as opposed to the jh of which they made 600.

Yeah the cleans on the JH100 when i tried it were out of this world, didn't get to crank it though :(

so, i am quite interested in this amp and the 40th 45/100.

i know they will be different but would anyone like to comment further on the tonal differences between the two?

cap'n crunch has indicated there will be a bit more mids in the 100jh - any other comparisons anyone can make?

i am guessing that the 45/100 will be a bit more blusey, softer in its attack and have more chime to it? but that is a total guess based on clips.

does one break-up sooner? is one louder? how are the cleans and overdriven characteristics similar and different?

REALLY wish i could try these side-by-side!
