Jcm 800 2204 50watt price check

Postby titan7 » 04 Apr 2012, 14:30

Hey guys looking at a mid to late 80s side by side input. All original, not mods other than a replacement tube socket installed. New EL34s. Tolex is in great shape other that a light scuff on the bottom of the head. I assume these would have Drake Transformers? Seller wants $1k.

1k is not out of the question for that amp, however IMO that amp is only worth $800 based on todays used amp market.

+1 on what Surf said, you may be able to haggle down from that. From what I've read people generally favor the vertical input 800's, but that comes down to taste. I would play it before you buy as I've also read from many sources that there's a pretty wide variance in the quality of 800's

Don't drink the Kool-Aid from those that will say the verticle input amps sound better then the horizontal ones, they don't.

thanks for the info. I can't find a 2204 in mint condition for less than $1k. Searched CL, Sitemash, ebay, and 70-80% of them are running $750-$850, however, everyone of those has cosmetic issue that are not acceptable or they have been modded. I am sure they sound find but looks like it will be hard to find a $800 mint, unmodded 2204. Decisions!

I guess a changed tube socket could be just maintainance. New tubes and Bias is worth $150.00 so perhaps $1k is not out of line? There are a couple RI 800 in the 1200-1400 range but those are also 100watts. Damn I am kicking myself for not picking up that 2 wks old perfect 2203 RI in 2009 for $900.00 Poor kid lost his job and dumped it and the 4/12 cab, I only needed the cab.

Well picked it up for $999 it was in great shape all orig, drake transformers and all, re-tube with JJ EL34 and all pre-amp tubes wasdone in Sept. and re-bais, so less $150 for tech work, I think it was a deal. Freaking LOUD!! This is the loudest 50 watt I have ever heard. Oh the tone!!!!!! Exactly what I was looking for!!
