No love for TSL's?

Postby surlybastard » 19 Aug 2012, 15:36

Like a lot of you I'm a regular surfer of the local gear classifieds (Craigslist, Kijiji) always looking for a deal or that one guy a day who's selling his Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier for $500 to settle a drug debt. Anyhow, I've noticed lately that the bottom has completely fallen out on TSL's and I don't really know why. Where I live (Canada) they would regularly fetch anywhere from $800 to $1000, but in the past six months the prices have dropped dramatically to the point that guys are selling them for less than half that now.

Any idea what's going on out there? Or is this just a case of a couple of guys who sold there's for nothing ruined the market for everyone else?

I have owned my TSL/100 since 1997, I am very attached to that amp. Back in '97 this thing was considered a Kings Ransom to buy. There was never another Marshall that interested me until the Vintage Modern came along 10 years later.

The reason they are going cheap is because the amp isn't hyped anymore, most buyers are looking at other amps. If you can get one for cheap get it. Channel two on that is worth the price alone.

I think also it never achieved that 'standard of the industry' level like the DSL's did so it has come to have a wrongly earned reputation of being a lesser amp.

When I saw the ad for $450 the wheels started turning in my head on how I could swing the cash, but it's not to be right now. I've played TSL's a bunch of different times and always liked them so it'd be a good addition to the fleet.

I've been thinking about getting a TSL combo amp if I could find one cheap just as an addition to my DSL and JMD heads. It would replace my MG combo (mainly used for taking to friends houses for jams) which was great but I have decided to move on from. Id look at a used JMD too but I thought having the TSL would help make a nice Marshall collection.

I always liked the TSL combo, because it has EL34's in it. Right about now, I could use a 3 channel amp.
Many Marshall's, and I want more.
