DSL as a power amp?

Postby noise5150 » 25 Nov 2012, 07:56

I am trying to use my DSL as a possible power amp by plugging a processor into the effects return. This does work, but neither volume on the front allows me to control the overall volume. Is there a reason for this??

You set the input volume on your preamp not the DSL. However the master should still work.

I would not use your DSL for this, your JMD1 is more the perfect candidate for a slave amp. If you use your JMD1 you can also still use the reverb, delay and effects.

I wanted to use the DSL because I got an Eleven Rack and thought I could use the DSL as a power amp. Im confused because none of the dials on the front will allow me to control the volume (neither the Ultra or Classic volume/gain knobs work). Im mainly gonna use the Eleven Rack for direct recording in another room anyway so I guess its not a big deal.

I would assume because on the DSL those control are functional before the FX Return.

Ok that makes sense. I also notice that when use my ISP Noise Decimator through the effects loop of the DSL, it kills the reverb. This doesn't happen on my other Marshalls or my brothers Fender. I assume its has to do with the order of the way things are situated in relation to the power and pre-amp stages?

Dave Murray of Iron Maiden uses his DLS´s as power amps to his JMP1´s. Look at a schematic of the DSL and see if the master volume is before or after the effects loop.
