Tell me about the Marshall Reissue JCM900 4100!?

Postby GuitarGuy10 » 31 Jan 2014, 04:17

Hey guys,

I tend to like darker tones, which is why my number one amp is my Bogner Shiva. I have stayed away from Marshall because of the brighter tones. So, I keep hearing that JCM900s were overlooked by many cause they are dark and some say not as nice as a JCM800 or JCM2000. Truth?

What about the Reissue 900 4100? What is this amp all about? Can someone give me some info and what to expect?

Thanks!

Check this video/thread out, gives you an idea of some different marshall voices, though it doesn't have the exact amp you are asking about specifically

Tube selection and personal taste will be the determining factor for you liking or hating this amp. Best way to find out is try one out. The A channel is where it's at on DR IMO with some JJ6L6GC glass, great tones.

I agree with Soulcaster on the 6l6's in a 4100. Thats the way to go. Mine was great with those power tubes.

I have played a 4100 and I own a JCM800 2204. The 4100 had a much darker, smoother tone. Honestly, I really liked it. I wasn't crazy about channel B. The gain was very fizzy sounding. However, channel A with the input gain dimed sounded beautiful, even with the master volume low. It was a nice dark crunch that growled if you dug in and cleaned up if you picked lighter. The store was asking $700 for it though and I got my '800 for $650 (and the 800 was made in 1988 - my birth year) so that's how I ended up with that one.
