Just picked up a new 100w DSL

Postby surfnorthwest » 25 Jul 2008, 06:07

Man some guys are really falling on hard times, I just bought a mint 3 month old 100 watt DSL for $742.00. I wasn't in the market for one becuase I was saving for that 68 Metro but it was to good of a deal to pass up on. There was also a Slash Jubilee for $1200 on ebay this morning, some pretty good deals on gear right now with the economy the way it is.

My Thinking is to use the Voodoo Labs amp switcher and set it up as follows;

Fender Deluxe Reverb on Channel 1 for cleans (G12H30 cab)
VM cranked in Low range for rythem work on channel 2 (425 cab)
DSL in high gain mode for leads on channel 3 (Vintage 30 cab)
Digitech GSP 1101 with my Floyd setting on channel 4

Wife is going to freak out so I better be preemptive and let her go shopping for herself this weekend.... :D

damn surf! where do you work and how can i get a job there? congrats man. the dsl is a great amp. especially for modern rock, but the clean channel can get a nice twang with some reverb and it sounds really great when its cranked with some break up. cant wait to hear some new tracks with it. i was checking out some of your stuff the other night. you have some great chops and recording skills. i love the tone you have on "top down"

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. I don't pimp my music other than post a link to it here an there at some forums I frequent, it is just a hobby I have. But I have original songs just pouring out of my head so I continue to write them.

Before my VM 2266 I had a 50W DSL. I always thought it sounded good but you could never as with most Marshall amps since the 2203/2204 MV amps(if you didn´t play them loud so the output stage distorted) turn the treble past 3 or 4 without getting a very trebly sound. By turning the treble down you get a less dynamic sound I think. On a VM you can turn the treble up just like on the old amps played loud. Think It has a lot to do with the master beeing placed after the phase inverter valve.

I picked up my DSL100 w a Genz Benz g-Flex early last fall for $900. Even today, it got used a bunch. Cleans with verb is great, deep, much like the VM but deeper. Enjoy the first red channel with, yes, with the mids scooped! There, I said it and admit to it. I find that combining it with a JCM 800 4104 is a stellar combination. Sad to say, it makes me lean towards a newer multi channel production amp that's coming out. Sad because, one of the boys is gonna have to go. I'm needing more from one amp these days.
