The new DSL is a good two channel amp, really can't go wrong with it. The original JCM DSLs were made in the UK. Thing is you are getting a lot of amp for the money. Being made in Vietnam is just a sign of the times in our global economy. I don;t like it but we all try to get this biggest bang for our buck.

Welcome to the Roadhouse and congrats on your new Marshall.

Welcome to the forum.

I didnt like the shared eq on the DSL. I would recommend getting a MXR 10 band should you come to dislike the shared eq as well.

I got an old MXR 10 band but the shared eq is no problem for me.

Hi I have a DSL40C and I love it. Perfect for band practice and small club gigs.
Note that, on the clean Channel, Just enough head room but it does the job.
I also have à JCM2000 TSL60 with à 1960 cabinet. Love it also, sound great for me. I used it for
Bigger gigs. Guess I'm more the lazy type of guitarist :) and I dont like to carry
A big rig lol

Congrats on the amp, DSL is the meat and potatoes Marshall from that era, great working amp that covers a lot of ground for a good price and great tone. Enjpy!

I've really come to like my 100W DSL i've had for a little while now. I havent liked the DSL that much in the past except for the ones i've borrowed at gigs for some reason. I guess this one must sound a bit different:-)

I used to have one of those, killer amp but didn't quite get the old-school sounds I was after so I traded for a 2204. I almost always played green crunch mode with an overdrive pedal. I do miss the lead channel occasionally, I may pick up one of the new DSL5C's sometime just for that.

Two big things to check for: Make sure the speaker jack mod is done. It's as simple as connecting the grounds on all three speaker outputs. Without this there is a switching mechanism that is known to fail, and if it fails you'll have a no-load condition that may result in output transformer failure. The other issue is the C46 cap that is only rated for 500V which isn't a big enough safety margin, that cap can either be completely removed from the circuit or replaced with a 1000V cap.

What is the speaker jack mod? Mine is from 98. Shouldn't the failure already have accured if there was a problem?

I forget the exact details, but some of the speaker jacks are switched and turn on or off depending on if something is plugged in. It's this switching mechanism that fails. If only the unswitched jack has been used, the failure might not happen or would not be noticed. I think it's the 16-ohm output that's unswitched and won't fail, but I could be wrong.

The mod/fix is simple, solder a wire to connect the ground terminals of all three speaker outputs.
