Need advise

Postby Remmag » 07 May 2014, 17:24

Hey guys
Finally received my jcm2000
Hate to say I am not happy with it
Sounds muddy and fuzzy
Per my memory I loved throne I had years ago

I have. A 1960 a cab I'm playing it through (bought kst used also)
Had the cable lugged into 16 ohm on amp and cab ,switched to mono
It worked fine just didn't sound good to me

Did have a lot of hum though

I switched them to 4 ohm and sounded the same but got volume surges

I have 30 days I can take it back

Not sure about 4 ohm, 8 and 16 ohms and mono stereo

Can you guys offer any input

Thanks

And if it helps I play a les paul with double humbuckers and a fender strat with lace sensor pickups

A couple things...

I'm not a tech, but have read countless things about the DSL. One thing is the DSL was made w/ a faulty ground design on the 4/8 ohm output tap. There's a lot of info on the web on how to fix it. Meanwhile, only use the 16 ohm output.

Not knowing what year it is & the history behind it, I would guess that a re-tubing would be in order.

Other than that, you might have a tech look at it to make sure everything's up to spec. There's a lot of mod's on the web that are relatively simple, just have to look them up.

If none of this interests you, I'd say take it back & get something you're happy w/ right off the bat...

Keep the treble down and turn up the mids a bit.
