Hello,
I have been wanting a versatile channel switcher for awhile now. I have played the DSL's and the TSL's but never fell in love with them enough to seriously put up the cash. I heard great things about the 6100's and found a mint condition one for a steal the other day, so I bought it. Now that I have it home, I'm liking the tone a lot from it. It is the early model, non LM, with EL34's but it is black. It's been awhile since I played a 2000 series amp, but if memory serves me well, I like the tone of this 6100 a lot better. Has anyone else played these 2000's next to a 6100 and can elaborate on their opinions of each?
I think the 6100 is more on par with the TSL in terms of versatility. It has 3 independent channels and eq, plus modes within each channel, and it has a half power switch, and pentrode and triode modes that will reduce it to a 25 watt amp. Has line out, etc. It is like a JVM. Very ahead of its time. this is a 1992 model.
I boost my amps with a microamp/OCD though, and this amp seems to get a little mushy running it like I normally do my 2466 and 2203's. I guess I need to eq differently and get the master up more? I have a JCM 900 4100 too, and although its tone isn't regarded by many as the best marshall has put out, I love how it stays tight no matter what I push it with.
