Called the store today. They had a R9 waiting on the wall. Ran down there and tried it out. I was actually pleasantly surprised how my hand handled the thicker neck on it. (A little thicker than my Goldtop). Not baseball bat like at all. I played it for about 30min until my co-worker told me to stop and that we had to go back to our warehouse. It had an UNREAL VOS Faded Tobacco Burst. Sorry Bluesburst, as much as I loved the burst on yours... had to go the classic tobacco. It's just so old school and I love it. Since the guitar costs about 6k (stupid taxes). I'm just putting cash payments on it (lay away). Don't fret though! Should only be a couple months before she'll be part of my roster full time. From the sound of it. She'll be taking over as the main babe.

Truly can't wait to bring it home and pump it through my AFD100. I found it to be fairly light as well. Not as light as a chambered LP (I played the other chambered one they had) but fairly light. Either way. It had that "Zepp" type guitar mojo. And I fell in love with it. I a few more months I'll update my pic to show you guys my roster :P

The best guitar I have ever played in my life was a R9 VOS Standard in the Gibson booth at a guitar show a few years ago. This was unplugged BTW. Just unbelievable. I went to the show with my coworker, who is a Strat freak and hates Gibsons, and even he said it was the best guitar he's ever played.

Ed King, the ex-guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd (he co-wrote Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird), has two original '59 bursts. One was stolen and featured in The Burst Book. He eventually tracked that one down and got it back. Ed said recently that he played a R9 Cloud straight off the wall at the Gibson factory, and it was a better guitar than either of his original bursts.

Maybe it's time to take a moment and be thankful that Gibson has well remembered what they did right in the late fifties, and we can get a new instrument that is reasonably close to the utterly unaffordable originals. The R8 and R9 VOS's certainly are outstanding instruments.

Perry's is a 59. That tobacco burst is why I wanted that burst. Saw it in the store and couldn't resist. The Joe Perry sign is ridiculously over priced haha.
