New Custom Shop Gibson Flying V, "Veronica"

Postby Bluesburst » 20 Sep 2014, 05:12

The taxman was very nice to us this year and the Managing Director a.k.a Awesome Wife, :wow gave the nod to pick up a V I’ve had my eye on for the last 18 months that (lucky for me) didn’t sell. I came very close a year pick to picking up this mighty V but life got in the way . . .

Patience is a virtue and I’ve had the experience before of seeing guitars tease me for long periods of time and being rewarded for my patience

Interestingly this is a 58 reissue mahogany Flying V, I haven’t seen to many other than Korina V’s, they tend to be 59’s, have I lead a sheltered life???

This is the Custom Shop at their finest, everything is perfect. It’s light, well balance, beautiful grain and lovely tone both acoustically and amped up. The neck has a great feel, full but not a baseball bat. There’s even a bit of flame in the mahogany

Looking at 58 Flying V’s even the serial number is typical of a 58 V. Nice touch. Being a 2012 build it came with the “economical” case candy but on the bright side it’s a one-piece rosewood fingerboard. All up a winner and nice to have Veronica in the family.

Here’s my Custom Shop family, definitely a 5 Finger Custom Punch. They are, from Left to Right:

Ruby (Red Bullion 1956 Reissue Les Paul)
Coco (R7 Futura)
Mony (Lemonburst 1959 Les Paul)
Stellar (Black Sparkle CS Les Paul that was originally destined to be a 1960 Reissue but ended up all sparkly. The R0 stamp is in the control cavity, I suspect the Ebony board was put on in error and they just made it a sparkly Custom Shop Standard)

Thanks Guys

I'm a very happy boy, it was one of those purchases that wasn't planned, just walked into the store and saw a guitar I almost bought last year. I thought it had gone and there it was. :jam

Surf, not sure on the pickups, but I assume there the standard Custom Shop issue Burstbuckers. From early playing, I'd guess the lower output 2 in the neck and medium output 2 at the bridge. It's a warm sounding guitar with a nice bite, a perfect Blues machine :bluesbrothers
