I like that 96 classic lester 8)
I'm currently up to 27 guitars, one or two oddballs, like a gretch traveling wilburys guitar still in the box and a 63 fender 8 string slide. I will probably be thinning the herd soon though, I realized I just dont have any more room, and its either that, or get a bigger house.

Thanks, the pups in that one are special, got them from the bins in mannys back in the day. old paf's from the time when the world was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too stupid and yanking them out of lesters to put in super distortions. The neck pup is the sweetest I have ever heard, almost sounds like a 56 soapbar

have been a strat person since day one.
somehow the strat just feels right in my hands and against my body.
when appetitie for destruction came out, i had always wanted to try a les paul.
i finally gave in and bought an epiphone, changed the pickups ala zakk wylde.
the last time i touched the les paul was when i bought the vm and wanted to hear what a les paul sounded like through it.
that was about 7 to 8 months ago.

Errr.... what about me? G&L ASAT Deluxe.

It's shaped like a Tele, but it's mahogany, and has two humbuckers with a coil tap.
Sounds like a telestratopaul.

Sit this one out....grumble. grumble..

Craig Walker: That Les Paul has a BEAUTIFUL colour to it. Love it.

Anyways on topic, I started out on an Epiphone Les Paul and while I love the tone and such, I'd have to say I am much more of a strat person. I just love the feel and sound of it. Perfect.

I just realized that I haven't spoken up here!

Both the Strat and LP are iconic guitars.......I lean towards Les Paul's cause I don't know too much about Strats.
However, you guy's have me gassing for a Strat now...before I purchase one, I'm gonna need some help from you guy's!

I know that most of you have seen these...but I'm gonna make you suffer thru it again!

I never tire of looking at beautiful guitars!

I strongly recommend trying out the Fender ('62 or '57) Hot Rod reissue Strats. I played one recently and it was awesome! This WILL be my next guitar (sshhh, don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm "done"! ):

Cool!

What's a "Hot Rod" reissue? Do they differ from the American Vintage?

Basically the same but with better pickups (though there certainly is nothing wrong with the 57/62 pickups), 5-way switch installed (not a big deal), slightly different neck shape (a little fatter) with med-jumbo frets. May be a few other differences I'm forgetting.

Those seems like good options.
I bought the American Vintage '62 a month ago, exaclty the same color as the one on your picture. It's a great guitar. The 5-way switch was in the case and I put it in directly of course. Too hard to balance the 3-way switch in the 2 and 4 positions :-)

I'm already thinking about re-fretting it with medium jumbo frets or similar. They don't need to be fatter, just higher. I find it a little to much work playing with my fingers down in the wood... bends especially. The neck actually is fatter than the standard C-shape, even if Fender calls it just "C-shape". I noticed this right away. I just looked at the specs for the Hot Rod and they call it "Thick C Shape". Might be a bit thicker. And the fretboard also have a 9.5" radius instead of the 7.25'' radius as on the American Vintage. Should minimize fret outs when bending.

I love the stock pups on mine. I think the only difference on the Hot Rod is the reversed polarity on the middle pickup (I might be wrong) which makes it hum free in the 2 and 4 positions.

I find my Strat as awesome as you found the Hot Rod I'm sure. You can really feel and hear the quality of the wood used. Great pieces of wood. My Strat is also very heavy. They must have chosen a really dense piece of Alder. It has incredible sustain.
