2001 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Class- 5

Postby surfnorthwest » 07 Nov 2009, 05:44

These guys at the Grinning Elk find some of the nicest and rare guitars. Take a look at this sweetheart for $2900, the Class 5s are great Les Pauls.

Image
This unplayed Class- 5 Les Paul features a carved top of highly flamed maple with a weight-relieved mahogany body, a long neck tenon and a slim taper neck profile based on the 1960 Gibson neck. They should have called this model "The Easy", because it's easy to play, easy on the back and most of all, easy on the eyes. The tone is warm and full and the guitar is in "as new" condition. While others may ask $4600.00 for a Class- 5, ours is priced more in tune with the Les Paul player that wants a spectacular looking and sounding instrument, but doesn't want to take out a second mortgage to get it. It's a complete, affordable package, backed by our 100%, iron- clad 'Elk guarantee and it just doesn't get any better than that!

That is one hell of a nice guitar, it cost £3000 here in the UK which is about $5000US. :eek

Gonna have to save up for a while.

I'm gonna have to guess it is no different to any other les paul apart from the glorious paint job?

I might be wrong but prices are in $

It costs 3.000$ (which is expensive, of course, but less than what you thought). Roughly 2.000€

There are a few Class 5's over here which do retail for £3000 which is nearly $5000 believe me I checked. (Rip off Britain) Everything cost twice as much as anywhere else in the world). Check it out http://www.andertons.co.uk/ElectricGuit ... rdware.asp

An Example......It is possible to buy a car in Germany get it shipped to England, pay all the import and duty taxes and get it registered for cheaper than it would cost to buy it in the UK. Go figure :dunno

That's cool, I doubted my sums for a second and had to check again otherwise I would have been quite embarrased.

I am seriously considering buying that. It is exactly the guitar I want. However, I have to pay for my new LP Standard I bought last May on a 12 month no payment plan, so I think I have like a $2000 payment due in 2 months, so that kinda sucks. Damn timing. Heh. Maybe I can really kiss the wife's ass. Somehow I think she is more likely to just give me the look. You know, the one you get when you have GAS and the significant other thinks you are flipping insane. :smash

I believe that blue Les Paul is still availible from the guys at the Grinning Elk guitar shop in Atlanta. The website is worth a bookmark though because they sell nothing but rare mint examples of Fender's, Gibsons, and PRS guitars. I have bought two from them so far and they are great to deal with, they will deal with you.

They post new stuff all the time.

It's usually the case here in the UK, just find the US price and change the dollar sign for a pound sign

You could import it from America but add on 20% to the price for import tax etc and postage on top. Then hope it arrives OK and not damaged

You could try the import trick BrianC but you'll have to find a very friendly US dealer to work with. I have tried to import from the US in the past to save money but it looks like Gibson have handcuffed their US retailers and told them that if they export to the UK they will no longer be supplied. Just like the car market us Brits have to suffer inflated prices because the manufacturers can get away with it and have tied up the market.
