NAD Reynolds Skunkworx Plexi100

Postby Soulcaster » 03 Jan 2013, 22:07

Well, I've been on the hunt for a new amp for a long time now mainly to do things that my AFD100 can't. So introducing the Reynolds Skunkworx Plexi100. Made by Pete Reynolds at river music at Windsor NSW.

Basically it is a modded Marshall 1959 with a foot switchable 2203 circuit. It was made specifically for guitarist Michael Dolce who used it on last years TV series "The Voice".

I'm by no means a technical kinda guy, more your plug and play variety but, I can tell you a bit about the amp. Basically the 1959 circuit has a high and low Volume control(as if it were patched) with a push pull bright switch. The "Marshall" style knobs on the right are the volume and gain knobs for the 2203 circuit which also has a push pull bright switch.

Haven't had too much time to experiment with it but Ive been using the Plexi channel for cleans, switching to the 2203 channel for crunch and pushing it with ZW-44 for solos or for some extra crunch. Sometimes I skip the 2203 channel and just push the Plexi channel with my pedal.

oh and yea, it sounds farking amazing,,,...

There was a JCM800 model 1959 made but this amp seems to be more then that. So many clones and variations being made now. The important thing is that you are getting along with it, what power valves does it have?

For these type of Plexi clones I think they sound great with the EL34s BUT if you are going to play hard rock or Metal then a change the some 6550's really give it some growl.

Yer,,,..it's not a a clone as such. It actually is a Marshall 1959 re-issue with an added hand wired 2203 circuit and some added dungeon dust and goodies in both circuits.

I get what you mean with the tubes but, I have the AFD100 for 6550 territory. This amp specifically serves the purpose of covering the ground my AFD can't.

Nice one. Your thinking on buying this was the same as mine buying the YJM. Now I really need to get an amp switcher cause everytime I play the YJM the only thing that it lacks is the unbeatable lead tone of the AFD.

Now I would spend a few more $ to put it looking exactly like a factory Marshall. There's nothing that can beat a Marshall looking amp. But that's me!

Cheers man

I was so close to getting a YJM, it came down to these 2 amps tbh. I just preferred the clean channel on this amp, just personal preference I guess.

I'm tempted to get a Marshall logo for it. I think I'll leave the knobs though, they are so much easier to see where you're at. :Cheers
