Best replacement valves 1959 super lead 100 ?

Postby Rev-al » 26 Mar 2013, 15:34

Hello all.
My '72 super lead 100 needs a revalve.
Been a long time since I sourced valves I was very happy with- so hoping for some advice on here.
I'm in the UK - & was trying to avoid Watford because of some rude service a few years ago.
Thinking JJ E34Ls would be a good choice for this amp- preserving original sounds/response ?
Any thoughts on valve choice and vendor would be Much appreciated -
Al

I would recommend finding a quad of older Siemens EL34s for it, they seem to be the best bang for the buck if you want to go with NOS. If you simply want a nice set of new production tubes take a look at the TungSol EL34s. I tend to stay away from the JJ tubes for the preamp for sure, they will be fine for the power amp since that amp is bright anyways.
