Should be a letter in there: Ex: my 2204 from 1979 has "S 09929L " and the L means it's from 1979. (S means it's a 50 watt).
Maybe on yours the "4" is a letter instead possibly?
From July 1969 to December 1983, the date letter was put after the serial number.
From Jan 1984 to October 1992 the model letter first, then the date letter second,
were before the serial number.
Letters I & O were omitted to avoid confusion with numbers 1 & 0.
