I am not suprised at the 112db I have mesured my class 5 at 107db, with the stock 10". I had my super Reverb out at a jam session with 12 musicians all together , when I got home I checked the volume I had been playing was 110db that was the loudest setting for my lead and everyone said I was heard well above the mix. The SR was on 3.5 by the way, but that gave me a bench mark as what it would take in that situation. In a regular band situation in a small club the class 5 should do alright. Running through a larger cabinet would make a difference. The 2061x with a 1 12 could prob. be dimed but through a half stack it might need to be turned back a bit. I am thinking that since I already have the VM2266 and on the LD setting and the master volume dimed, I seem to be getting close to the 2061x tone ( tell me if you think I'm mistaken) I will wait and look for a deal on a used 2061x .aristotle wrote:I don't have the 1974x, but have played through a few of them. I do have the 2061x, and I agree with Papus, I like it better.... If nothing else, I like the option to pair it with different speakers. I'm surprised at the 112dB level that Papus recorded because while I agree it's loud for a 20 watt amp, the thing I like about it most is that I can gig with it totally dimed and it's very manageable. I usually put it through a 2x12 of some ilk, so maybe that's part of it. I keep meaning to look into the cascade mod since Papus' demo of it sounds so nice, but I assure you that even the unmodded one is super nice.
One might argue that at the cost of the 2061x, you might just as well go out and get a YJM and scale it back to 20 watts. As much as I like the YJM, and even though I'm still in the honeymoon phase with it, it just isn't the same as the 2061x dimed. It has a ton of other features, which is nice, and the power scaling really does work much better than I expected..but it isn't the same (to me at least.)
