4 & 8 ohms on Marshalls

Postby Mats A » 16 Jun 2014, 10:27

Does anybody know why Marshall amps in Sweden from the 70's and 80's have only 4 & 8 ohms on the speaker jacks? Likewise the 4x12's are at 8 ohms. Can be a minor problem today when for instance using a 1960 X cab that is at only 16 ohms.

Most cabinets back then were only 4/8 ohm cabinets.

Really a question for Marshall historians. Even early Marshalls here in the US had the 16 ohm tap. What you have is rare or someone changed out the transformer and the ohm selector, it may not be stock.

Now if all these early Marshalls in Sweden have the same thing then perhaps the dealers in Sweden ordered them that way.

Could be a Gov safety thing too. Werent some of the 70's Canadien Marshall's only shipped as 4-8 or 8-16, but no taps for all three?

All Marshall Amps in Germany have 4,8 and 16 Ohm Outputs. From the beginning Sixties.
Maybe a special thing in Sweden.
