Anything New?..

Postby djw171 » 02 Sep 2014, 05:38

Well we are into September now, still not seeing anyting new from Marshall. Do we think we'll have to wait until Winter Namm for any announcement?. Close to pulling the trigger on a VM my local store still has in stock..but don't want to regret it.

Hi Dave, I think you'd regret it if you didn't buy the VM while you can. Its the only one I want for my Marshall collection.
I expect now Steve D has left, that means Marshall will focus on the Heavy Metal type amps.
SV20 Plexi, JTM45, YJM plexi, KK800, JTM60, JTM1, JMP1, JCM1, DSL1, JVM1.

There are new amps coming I know about. The release date for those amps I don't know. However I fully expect by NAMM 2015 we will see them. Sooner is possible but I can't confirm.

The whole thing has been frustrating not only for us but for Marshall too. The 2466 remains one of my favorite amps ever.

Thanks for the response Al & Surf. I recall you saying Surf about there being new amps. I'm sure as you say Marshall are keen to get them out. Namm should be a good one this January. I think Gibson's stand will be interesting too, a lot of the 2014's were not greeted too well.

Yeah I like the VM but I just don't know..I know you can never have enough amps... :clap however I've had a hard time explaining to the wife the latest Les Paul purchase!

Still haven't shifted the Class 5 and cabinet either..

Maybe it will be a JVM with an inbuilt fridge. Jokes aside hope it will be something good and classic Marshall sounding.

When i was looking at Marshall's site the other day, you can get JTM45, 1987,1959, Bluesbreaker. It doesn't get any more Marshall vintage then that.

I suspect a 3 channel modern style amp to take over from the JVM. I don't really know what new ideas they can come up with as far as amp voicing.

Something with a decade/era selection and then a hot rod mode for each would be my vote, stick 4 EQs on that but the ability to assign each of the EQs to clean/dirty and era/hotrod etc would be the ideal replacement for the JVM in my eyes

I don't want a lot of channels, knobs and many modes. A clean and a dirty channel with maybe two modes on each. Not too much gain like on the JVM. Maybe make an amp that is based on a 1959/1987. Maybe it even could have a mode with exact that circuit. But with an added master volume. Maybe switchable out of the circuit.

Thing is about those reissues and handwired amps is they are way too loud and/ or pricey.

I'm talking a JTM series range like the DSL.
Or even like oranges tiny terror amps. Handful of extra knobs and features thrown in at a descent price too!
A 15w JTM would be killer.
A plexi range with 87 mode and 86 bass mode.
Fx loops, some with MV some with out.
Attenuation.
Basically rather than a replica - get some mods on the go.

So many expectations on Marshall... they better come up with something good! :)

I agree with you Doc, a series of vintage Marshalls (JTM, JMP, JCM), from 5W to 100W, all with EPA capable of going down to 0.1W, with several modes based on the most famous mods for each of these amps, with fx loop, with auto bias... that would be nice.

But then again I have no clue what the market wants... are we a minority interested in vintage and hot rodded vintage tones? Maybe the market now is more focused on higher gain amps and vintage tones are for a small niche market... and maybe an amp capable of doing all the vintage tones we love for a lower price would kill their HW and re-issue business which I guess is the most profitable part of their business...

Maybe. A few good points in there.

Although I think you'll always have the HW fans. I buy fuzz pedals and I want them as faithful to the originals as possible. I pay the price too but that's what you get with nos parts and hours of labour.
Brands like EHX will do their best for the price to clone, ie satisfaction fuzz, east river od etc definitely in the ball park but side by side comparisons with originals they don't really hold there own. But good none the less.

I haven't the cash to pay £2000 on a amp just because it's handwired. Nor have I the use for a 40-50 watt amp. Who does??? Unless you gig big gigs or live in the country.

The jvm covers tons. It's full of features and remains successful.
The reissues are great for getting the amp of yesteryear & the handwired for the purests.
But for the bedroom to small gigging guitarists we need more than a SL5. Or DSL 5. A amp for covering slash or a old design re- branded.
A JTM with 6V6 tubes, a EZ81 rectifier plus pre amp tubes.. Come on! Easy enough yeah? 15-7 watt maybe?? Or attenuation?

Maybe we should get a poll.
Vintage or modern? Just to see where the Roadhouse is at??

I think take a 1959 as a base and add features but try to keep the original tone as close as possible. Maybe in different wattages If some modders can Marshall themselves should be able to do it.
