Opinions on the MOSFET 100 amp from the 80's

Postby michael_dba » 14 May 2015, 02:15

I see a local Marshall MOSFET 100 amp, I believe a 1984 version for $150 obo. Advertised to be in great condition.
Curious if anyone has or had one and how did you like it.
The one I heard live sounded pretty damn good, very surprising. Also, the YouTube demos sound pretty good.....well, most of them.

Hell, $150 for a vintage JCM style head cab alone is a decent deal.

That's an excellent price for the head. I have one, not bad for a solid-state. It got plenty of playtime when I had a DSL because the Mosfet had a more natural 1980's JCM800-type voicing. Now that I have a 2204 the Mosfet just collects dust, but it would be a good backup amp with a similar sound.

I had the 5213 variant combo and it was the only Marshall i regret selling. With a boss 7 band eq in the loop this thing rocked.

Changing the 1458 op amps to a tlo72cp will get rid of that annoying bi-polar hiss.
