Hi all,

Looking for some help to figure out where this speaker is from - came in a 2x12 I recently got, assume its a G12T 75, but there is no number after the T,

Also, has it tagged as 4 Ohm, but I can only see reference to 8 and 16Ohm G12T 75's - The back looks like a regular G12T 75, without the 75, also has Marshall below the G12T part - so assume it came from a Marshall combo, or can

Any idea what it may have come from?

Hey BKE, Pictures would help.

The only way you are going to be able to be 100% sure on the impedance is to check it with a meter. They did make 4 ohm GT's in 75 watt and 100 watt.

What's the speaker cab model ? Could be a G12T 100 they come in 4 ohms, the originals might have been replaced

I can't make out the model number on the side, but there is clearly a 4 Ohm stamp, here is a picture - thanks for the help!

My guess would be that it's a GT12-75. They're common in 2-12 combos like the Valvestates, JCM 900 and 800 etc. I believe all the GT12-100's have a vented pole.

Thanks, that's what my original throught was but couldn't find anything on the web regarding a 4ohm version. I guess maybe they are discontinued. The guy who sold me the cab claimed the speakers were late 80's vintage 30's so guess they could be early version G12T 75's. They sound good considering a lot of negatives I've read about that speaker. Either way it's going back or he's giving me some money back as not quite what he said they were!

Well, it's definitely not a V30.

That being said, as long as it's in good shape it's not a bad speaker by any means. The GT 75's have been used on 100's of recordings. Remember, the only "bad speaker" is one that does not sound good to YOUR ears. Don't let what someone else thinks bout it dictate what you like or dislike. Let your ears be the judge. Regardless of what others say there's no right or wrong here.

I run a combination of 75's and V30's in my cabs and I think the two play nicely together for metal and hard rock, one fills in where the other leaves off.

what combo did it come with?

No idea, would like to figure out what it might have come from originally - I got them in an old 212 closed back no name cabinet, its that they are printed 4Ohm which I'm struggling with as haven't been able to find anything on the web about 4 Ohm G12T's... ah well, I guess if they sound good that's all that matters!

I saw this http://medias.audiofanzine.com/images/n ... 460879.jpg looks to be what your saying. Seems they came in model 8222 (rated @ 200 watts) cab or 8280 stereo combo. Still don't know what they are

They were used on the Marshall Valvestate lineup manufactured from the late 80s to mid 90s. Very good speakers/amps indeed. I have the same exact ones fitted in my Marshall Valvestate 8240 combo (2x12 80watts).
