Which mini stack amp is best?

Postby Mike_LA » 21 Oct 2015, 11:38

Hey gang, in my searching around I've seen a few mini stacks for sale and am confused as to the different models.

Which head is the best with the little stack?

I am assuming they never made a tube version.

Thnx.

They all sound pretty bad which would be expected, they are more of a conversation piece or a desk piece. Like any amp get the mini stack.

Thanks Surf, what was I thnking?
Gonna buy a mini stack and put my JVM 1 on top of it and sell the amp it comes with.
I have 2 weber alnico 10A150T speakers rated @ 25 watts.
Then the living room will be complete.
The mustang 1, though nice, will have to find a new home.

Actually, now that I think of it,
"Why didn't Marshall make a stack and cabs to match the 50th amps ?"
Seems they could have sold a few.

Short answer, because they are fucking idiots..
Long answer, because they are fucking idiots...

Also, because not many would have bought 10 inch speaker cabs, and the 50th heads are too small to look right on 12 inch cabs. (good one Nick bowcott, head of marketing.. another good move on your part dickhead :giveup )
the 50th heads should have been housed in the Class 5 size cabs..

I think the price would have been far too much for a complete 50th mini stack in fairness to Marshall. A lot of people didn't like the price of just the head or the combo as it was. Being they were UK made Marshall had to charge a bit more.

The 50th heads are (H) 180mm x (W) 380 x (D) 195mm. There are a couple of 1 x 12" cabinet options from Marshall:

MX112 - (H) 500mm x (W) 470mm x (D) 195mm
1912 - (H) 510mm x (W) 465mm x(D) 290mm

The head would look fine on top of either. You are only talking 90mm difference. I have my 50th DSL-1 on a 2 x 12 and it looks fine to me. Sounds even better!

You could always contact the Custom Shop and get a cabinet made to your spec (ie change the speaker, tolex etc).

They have actually made some Custom 50th stacks:

Hummmmm, pretty expensive route. Since I want to use my set of 10s, think I'll make 2 cabs or have them made locally and put a couple of logos on them. That will be better than 2 partical board cabs and I can make them deeper than the standard set as well.

The 1912 cab's look right w/ the new custom head cab...

I agree, it was a stupid move not to make them match the 1912 to begin w/. Then offer the custom cab's only for UK.
