I was recently told by a 'Marshall Boffin' that the glue currently used to fix the Tolex on cabinets is water-based, sticky when hot and fixes as it cools. This glue can be 're-activated' very simply with a hairdryer - warm it up, smooth down the damaged Tolex and allow to cool. I don't know how long this glue has been in use so it may not work for older cabinets where a solvent-based glue was used.
