Wallpaper glue works great although you can buy glue made just for tolex. Grey is a light color so to really clean it try acetone, should work great but try on a area first.

With a damp rag you will be pasting the surface dirt and work it into the depth of the tolex structure, I would rather recommend a not too coarse scrubbing brush, some mild plastic cleanser and an old towel to rub it dry. If it has lost it's silky surface quality and needs further re-spiffment try some automobile dashboard spray - but be carefull, some of these are a bit aggrssive (I remember one formula that seriously bleached out the dashboard of my shiny Mercedes - fortunately the effct wore off after a few days).

I was recently told by a 'Marshall Boffin' that the glue currently used to fix the Tolex on cabinets is water-based, sticky when hot and fixes as it cools. This glue can be 're-activated' very simply with a hairdryer - warm it up, smooth down the damaged Tolex and allow to cool. I don't know how long this glue has been in use so it may not work for older cabinets where a solvent-based glue was used.
