ok well first of ive been doing some reading so i know you guys are gonna shit yourself when you read that i bought a marshall 2550 for $100... now that im done bragging about it i need to replace the tubes, do i just go with el34s? and if so what company do you recommend going with?
ah no man, you don't need new tubes. The amp is a dog and no new tubes will help. I'll take 'er off your hands so you can buy a real amp...the Vintage Modern...
Kidding aside...a set of Winged C's would be the ticket on the power tubes and some JJs in the preamp.

Ok what I suggest you do is contact Doug at dougstubes.com He will match you up with a perfectly burned in and tested set that will reflect exactly what you'd like it to sound like. If you tell him you want it to sound like Slash or Bonamassa or Alvin Lee, he'll match them up and you'll be rockin' out in no time without having to experiment buying 10 different kinds of tubes. Many players on here as well as the rock stars go to him because he's about the only one who actually re-tests and burns them in for another 24 hours to make sure they're good and a good match. A little but more on cost but well worth the extra.
Fender SuperChamp X2 works well for me. It has one pure valve channel and a second (switchable) with digital emulations of various amps. Great clean tone on valve channel, lots of options on the other. Small enough for a bedroom, loud enough for a moderate rehearsal.
Don't compare yourself to others . You have no idea what their journey is all about!
