FretLight Guitars, next generation of learning

Postby surfnorthwest » 04 Mar 2012, 08:49

Thought this was a cool idea years ago, I should have developed it myself. I am glad someone did because for the beginner or even intermediate player it is a nice tool.

Basically you buy a Strat copy that has fiber optics on every note on the fretboard. You plug the guitar into your amp and USB and use the software to tell it the key and scale you want, a good way to get off of the pentatonic scale. The Fretlight then lights up the fretboard showing you the notes to play and highlights the root notes. Nice learning tool.

To take it a step further it also lights up chords and progressions. OR, import any tab into the software to learn any song, hell that works for me. :bgrin Now, no way does this become your gigging guitar but rather a useful tool to learn new covers fast. I would find it useful in the studio also to take my time and different scales for the progression I have, right now if I don't remember it I have to look at something to remind me.

For learning new songs it great too because you can import any tab into the software and the fret board lights up for that song/tab. Again not a gig guitar but rather a teaching tool. I think its a great primer to use when writting new songs.

$600 for guitar and software.

Yeah definitely! I'd love to feed some Jimi tab to it since I cant read tab to save my life plus to learn all those other scales and visually be able to see how they all connect would be invaluable. Just watched the software video. I like how it does the chord mode, solo mode and tab mode. I wonder if it shows all teh variations of the same chhord like say an E chcrd in every position on the neck to find cool different voicings.

Those guitars really dont look to bad at all for practice or jamming. I'd love to get one but I practice so little as it is now that I dont know if it wouldf be $600 down the drain or not. I have lots of video instruction CDs but never take the time to watch them and practice like I should. The older I get, the harder it is to memorize stuff'. lol
