Any plexi owners that can comment on how close preamp #5 sounds compared to the real thing?

It is really subjective if preamp #5 sounds Plexi or not, very guitar and pickup dependent. Fact is most people who have criticized #5 have never played a true Plexi and talk out their ass. The JMD1 can do a lot of tings well, "plexi" IMO just really isn't one of them. But like I said it is subjective.

However being one that knows both Plexi and the JMD1 well my recommendation would be to use either Preamp #2 or #4 on the JMD1 and use a Wampler Plexi Drive pedal. Both #2 and #4 are clean and the Wampler will sound very plexi on either of those channels. Play with the Preamp gain and volume to dial in the sweet spot, set both to 50% as a baseline.
