JMD:1 - First Rehearsal Impressions...

Postby mety » 31 Mar 2010, 16:32

I was knocked out with this amp tonight after using it "in anger" at its first rehearsal at stage volume.
This is another of Steve's (and Softtube's of course) projects that are surely destined to become future classics!

I was convinced tonight that it was as good as using the "real thing" - honest!...

I used the 1974 model with my Guv'nor clone and some reverb and the JVM clean with chorus/reverb/delay, the rest I did with my volume control on the guitar.
I didn't need anything else. There's so much to investigate on this amp, I haven't even scratched the surface yet.

No wonder it has won amp of the year 2010!

Thank you SteveD/Softube/Marshall! :yea

:Thumbs :yea

I have about 5 tones dialed in that are just perfect. After about one month now and it is becoming my go to amp. People will figure it out soon enough in the mean time I am going to enjoy being one of the first to own it.

I am glad it is working out for you. What preamp are you going to use for the early Sabbath stuff?

I'm still using my Vintage Modern for the Sabbath stuff, but if I was to use the JMD I would probably choose one of the 5, 6 or 8 pre-amps and drive their front end with a pedal.

I've yet to discover some of the many possibilities, I'm looking to maybe gig with the amp only, no pedals etc... :Thumbs

You can certainly do without pedals on this amp, you can dial in some huge amounts of gain and the effects are very good. I do use a dejavibe in front. Looking at the cabinets you own I have tried it with the 425 with very good results but perhaps the G12T-75 might be the ticket for this head. Honestly everything I have tried of my six cabinets has sounded great.

The song I am working on now uses the VM in LDR and the JMD on preamp 13.... :yea sounds HUGE. You are absolutly correct in saying in will take a good while to discover all the tones, you crank up the pre volume and the gain on any preamp and there becomes some wonderful stuff the amp will give you. It is like being a kid in a candy store. Enjoy Mety.
