JMD-1 versus vintage modern

Postby bluesbrother » 03 Apr 2010, 08:16

My vintage modern sounds great with a fender guitar ,my JTM 45 clone
sounded great with a les paul but with my 2 fender guitars i prefer
the VM. Its no big secret i love the way one can change sounds with
modeling with stored presets. I listened to anything (including
marshall theatre ) about this amp.

Anyway my question is if the JMD-1 can sound as bluesy as the
VM in low range. The rock sounds are killer on the JMD-1 but besides
a david gilmour sound i only heard humbuckers with rock sounds.
Is this amp a good match for a strat and tele to play some dirty
and clean blues?
I know some have both on the forum and i take there knowledge
better than from a salesman.
Thanks

Preamp 11 in the overdrive section can nail SRV, also if you like that ZZ top sound it sits is in the crunch section.

The amp works very well with single coil pickups, it is a much different than the VM as you have the EL34 sound and the amp can be fined tune so well as far as eq and gain. Would it make a great blues amp, if thats all you play then I would say "no" there are better options out there. BUT if you want some very good blues tones there are many in this amp the VM can't give you as well a giving you about everything else on a silver platter with a click of the midi footswitch. It is simply a very versitle great sounding amp but it is a primary blues amp as much as it is a primary metal, rock, and clean amp IMO. It does a lot and it does it well.

It is a super versatile amp with the convenance of 28 presets.
With my boss eband js-8 i can connect a certain sound with one of
4000 backing tracks . So with one klick i play europe from carlos santana
to convert into purple haze from jimi including backing tracks.
With the Vm i play along with the backing tracks of the JS8 over a stereo (2x580 watt)
The JMD-1 will suit this purpose even better . I listen at the marshall theatre
and i noticed that the preamps with a marshall haze in it sounded if it
would be extremely good for blues. If it can nail SRV and ZZtop i will be
giving my review probably very soon....... :bgrin
Thanks Surf , i really appreciate your opinion :Cheers
