Boss DD-3 brighter sounding than the MXR Carbon Copy - why?

Postby noise5150 » 27 Mar 2013, 10:20

I use both of these with my DSL head in the effects loop. Different sounding delays but great for what they do. I notice that the Boss is "brighter" sounding than the MXR. Anyone know the technical reason why?

The short answer is the Boss is digital, the CC is analog. Digital delays designed to reproduce the dry signal as perfectly as possible, which is why the higher end frequencies stay intact more so than an analog delay which tends to roll off the high end of the dry signal with each successive repeat. Like you said, they're both great, just different and useful for different applications.

There's a simple cap mod to roll off the high end freqs to make it sounds "more" analog.

Good info thanks. Did some research, not that I am interested, but Keeley mods the Boss delay to sound more analog.
