Archetype: Plini - amp plugin

Postby Alpeggio » 24 Jul 2019, 14:33

Hi guys, a friend of my said why not use plugins for home recording, I said no, they're fizzy and don't sound as good as a real amp, even at home volume.

But then I saw reviews by Rabea, and Ola for this Plini amp plugin. So I gave the 14 day trial version a go. Sounded crap at first, but then I got the hang of it for my rig.

Here's the clean channel cranked and pushed by EMGs.

See what you think, I might buy it.

I need to listen on my monitors at home but i thought it sounded good. I think the mic examples are better. The convenience is hard to ignore though.

Roger that's odd. I just downloaded it to my phone. Works fine.

Yeah I agree. Amp and mic for me is still a little fuller and warmer.
It is getting close though, and in a mix would be less apparent.
Like you said it's all about convenience, and a good tone to write music with.
I'm still deciding whether to buy it.

It will be a while before I go down that road again but at the same time i wonder if a mix of the 2 methods is something to consider.

Haha, I felt the same way, and funny you mentioned using both methods.
I am going to record both a real amp and plugin at the same time to see how they blend. Using DI between guitar and amp to feed the plugin.
Other options are pan them left and right, or just use plugin for background rhythm and real amp for lead voice.
