GN'R live in Chicago 4-9-1992

Postby Marshall Fiend » 19 Dec 2012, 14:05

Not technically talk about the AFD100, but thought it would make its way to Slash fans . . . I wasn't aware of full GN'R shows being available on YouTube . . . just came across this one today.

No bleeping for Axl's profanity or anything. Enjoy! :yea

Yep....I gottem all.....offical and unoffical....a lot of full Slash shows too. The Chicago gig is amazing, one of the rare times they performed 'Coma' which that performance is amazing. They have a lot of the early pre AFD gigs too at the Whisky and Roxy, before Slash got his Derrig Les Paul. I did get the chance to see GN'R in 1991 in Toronto, when Izzy was still in the band. I was 11 years old and it was my second concert ever :metal :smash :cowbell
The best concert was at the Ritz 1988, (My Avatar)....It was dangerous and full of mistakes, but that's what Guns N' Roses was about in those days.

Cool. I only got to see them on their 1992 summer tour with Metallica and Faith No More. It was the opening show in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately the show was a lot like the pay-per-view show they did in Paris. They took forever to come on stage, and Metallica had already blown away the crowd. Unfortunately, the show was a bit of a let-down. I might have appreciated it more had I known it would be the only GN'R show I would ever see. My tickets were for crap. Today thanks to having the internet, having a job and having StubHub, it's a lot easier to learn about shows and to find and afford good seats.

I did have tickets to see them in Springfield, Mass. in March 1993, but that show was cancelled due to a winter storm. That was the so-called "Back to Basics" tour. Oh, well, at least we have the music.

BTW, the sound on Made in Stoke 24-7-11 is so much better than the GN'R Live Era double-CD set. It's a shame.

Also those GN'R videos show that Slash's playing was sloppier back then. He claimed that his substance abuse never affected his playing, but I think that's a load of crap. I think his playing is a lot better today than it was back then.

From a technical point of view, yes Slash is way better now... but it's also the additional years of practice, that must help.

From a melodic/iconic solo writing point of view? Young, sloppy Slash is 100 times better than anything modern Slash has come up with since the first VR album...

I agree, I do very much like his solo material, I wish he'd reform the original Snakepit with Eric Dover. It's Five O Clock Somewhere is still one of my favorite CD's of all time
