No i wouldn't mix. When i had my first AFD i had EL34's in it for a while But i think i prefer the 6550's wich it was made for in this amp.

I just love my AFD with stock tubes as it is so much that I would not even think of trying different tubes in it... call me boring if you like... I am just happy :)

And regarding the price you paid, this was a great deal...
I paid 7000 SEK for mine (just under 700 GBP), it was (and still is) in perfect condition, all stock. Can't believe I got so lucky.
Today I see that one just sold on Ebay UK for 1350 GBP... it was still in the box and never opened... but still... you got a great deal!
