Wow that tone wasn't very special or anything to brag about. Perhaps just Youtube but all that tone nailed was a DSL. But like any amp you have to try it for yourself. Demos are just that, demos.

Never liked signature stuff... You just pay the name on it!
I'm wondering how much that will cost? Just to have his name on it...

I'm actually pretty excited about this amp- it's on my really want to try list when it comes out. But I agree-
1- I thought the tone on the previous JCM 800 vid that's on that blog was much better- Maybe surf's right- maybe Youtube killed it- but I didn't think it sounded near as clear as the other vid.

2- I am also not a very big fan of signature stuff. It won't be a showstopper but I'm hoping they don't put some big Slash artwork and logo on the front. I know they will though.

I consider myself a pretty big Slash fan- guitar not lifestyle! But I also have many other guitar heroes as well.

That said- it's number two on my gear list, assuming I try it and like it in person.

That just sounded like Slash... Although to be honest I've never thought the Appetite tone was something extraordinary to chase after, it was more the rawness and the energy of the record in general that was the legendary part. I always thought the UYI tones were better, imo anyway.

While I think it sounds great, I just don't see it sounding any better than an 800 or a JMP. You could get the same tone without the signature price IMHO.

Ugh, I don't like it. Sound like you can just buy a JVM/DSL/JCM 800. But it's going to be a collector peice.

There's a band called Default where we rehearse in Langley, and we shared a room with them for a bit. They had a Slash jubilee siggy. Took everything I had not to steal that thing :P

I honestly didn't think that clip did the amplifier ANY justice! you could say it was youtube that killed the tone, but the older clips of Slash's #34 amplifier were on youtube as well and the tone was much more clear and crisp and to me more Orgasmic!. I think Marshall was too hasty in setting up the Slash session that they didn't care about mic placement? The amp may sound great in person but I think the video shouldn't have been released sounding like that.

Remember its not just the Appetite sound that this amp will do, it will also be switchable to nail Slash's Use Your Illusion amp tone/main recording amp tone and the first amp he had on the early AFD-100 clips.

So if nothing else if you don't buy it for the Appetite tone, the #34 switch tone may be the best reason to buy the AFD-100!

Here's my attempt playing Nightrain to compare the VM to this AFD-100 clip lol..

That sounded great! Is that just your VM or did you boost it with a TS style pedal? :party

Thanks :Thumbs

Its just my Les Paul copy with Seymore Duncan Alnico 2 pro pick ups plugged direct to my Vintage Modern 2466 Half Stack :)

No boost pedals, just a thick heavy duty $10 peavy 15 ft cable between my Jay Turser les paul copy guitar and amp and the volume cooking on 8. The cab is a Huges & Kettner 4x12 with Celestion Rock Juniors 240 watt cab.

Settings are:

Master Volume: 8
Presence: 8.5
Bass: 7
Middle: 7
Treble: 7

That tone was much better than anything I have heard from Slash, which in honesty is not much though. Very nice and punchy!
