Happy new owner of Marshall AFD100

Postby mihai4y » 27 Feb 2011, 05:56

Hi guys, just wanted to share with you that I'm a happy new owner of Marshall AFD100, since yesterday Feb 26. I'm from Bucharest/Romania and I picked up the first out of 2 pieces that Marshall official distributor got it.
You can imagine how thrilled I am as this is my first real amp and on top of it an all tube amp :bgrin. It really sounds like everybody on this forum and other internet forums says: KILLER !!!!
I hope for all you out there who are still waiting to get it a.s.a.p. and enjoy it.

Cheers :jam

Congrats on getting your new AFD! I can't stop playing with mine :yea I'm all slashed out and have been trying out the #34 mode. This mode is great for blues with the neck pickup on about 7, 8ish. Use the low input and theres some lovely, glassy tones. Add some reverb and it sounds really cool in a Peter Green kinda way. Enjoy your amp mate!

Hi surfnorthwest, thank you for your welcome note.
I’m using a 1960AV of course, as recommended, with a Gibson Slash Appetite :bgrin.
And yes we have very beautiful women here, and I’m luckily married with one of them :bgrin…..which on top of it is very patient with my hobby.

Cheers :jam

At my local music store they ordered it from the agent EM Nordic. Any music shop that sells Marshall amps should be able to do this.
About 18 000 SKr i´ve been told.

Today i finally really tested my AFD100. I was a bit anxious because i´ve thought the amp sounded very trebly on many demos. And i respect Slash but i´m no big fan of him or his tone. It has mostly sounded very thin to me.

The #34 tone is really bright. Like an old master volume with little gain so you get that extra treble or almost like using a treble booster. It´s great if you want more of a twangy tone. If this is based on Slash modded JCM800 and that is what he´s been using than i wonder how he did it. The AFD tone has more mids and is fatter sounding. A really great rock tone. The amp has got much more of a hot rodded old Marshall master volume tone then newer Marshalls.
I had no problem getting a clean sound turning down the volume on my Les Paul with PAF´s. And the effects loops volume works great as a solo boost. The Power volume works great but even 0,1% of 100 Watts is much louder than you think. So i can´t play the amp with the master on more than 4 with power at 0,1% at home to not upset the neighbours.

But i really like the amp Good job Santiago and Slash
