That looks amazing! I can't wait for mine. So it has the 80's stuff down pretty well, but can you dial back the gain and get some nice 70's stuff? Maybe a little KISS??? haha

Doesn´t the 1960 HW cab have 30 Watt Celestions? Are they also called Greenbacks? Looking good.

It's not a terribly gainy amp ... it's has a really cool 80's rock tone/vibe so if u dial back the gain a little you are in the Kiss range.

The #34 is bright yes but still I am pretty sure I can dial in a good tone there as well.
Question... if you go to EM Nordic which imports Marshall, they state that the 1960AHW is fitted with G12H-30 elements.
Have you replaced your speakers with Greenbacks?

Also, I see you have the 425 cabinet... have you tried the AFD100 with the 425 and if so, what are your impression on this?

I got a 425B cab and i think the AFD sounds ok with it but better with the V30´s. My JVM sounds real great on my 425B cab.

Thanks...

I am sort of stuck between my choices here. I want one cab that is good stuff for both the 2266 (2466 maybe) and the AFD100.
My options are:
1960AX
1960AV
425A

I believe the 2266C with it's stock speakers sound amazing... didn't fancy the sound of G12H-30's with my former 2266 head.
Youtube clips such as this (mostly this) gives me great vibes about the Vintage 30 speakers...
Gtrman's demo with using the AFD100 together with the 1960AHW sounds good, but my experience with using the VM together with my 1x12 G12H-30 cabinet kind of rules that option out.

The Vintage 30 speakers sounds great, but what I read is that Greenbacks sound more vintage/less modern and not as loud.

What I'm after is a cabinet that is brilliant with both a VM and AFD... which gives good old rock tones and supreme clarity.

Most stores in Norway don't offer a wide range of Marshall Cabinets to try... so I'm sort of relying of what information I can extract from the big WWW.

Comments and options are appreciated.

I've run my AFD and VM through a Carvin Legacy 2x12" (Vintage 30s), and the V30s sound great imo. Greenbacks for the VM are beautiful too, although depending on the band it may not cut quite as well as V30s.

K... I have done a lot of research... and I think I've found a solution.
I don't really know how much the material in a cabinet matters... but I'm guessing it's not an awful lot if I choose between the 1960AV or 1960AX.

I've seem to remember seeing several places that a 2xV30 + 2xG12M in a 4x12 cabinet is a good combination where the two different speakers compliments each other...
Now 1960AV have Vintage 30 elements and the 1960AX have Greenbacks...
Choose one of those and I can replace two speakers with either G12M's or V30's...
As I understood it from the brochure on the 1960AV cabinets you can switch so that you play through two or four speakers... that should make it feasible to connect two amps to one cab. V30 for the AFD100 and G12M's for the VM or visa versa... or run a 4x12 on one amp.
That would also leave me two speakers to sell... or to try to build my own cabinet...

I'm not sure if this stereo/mono switch is available for the 1960AX though... it's not listed in that brochure... so I'm guessing not.

Here's a G12M / V30 comparison.

(I don't get that bloody youtube thingie to work, so you'll have to settle for a link :think )

My bad .... I actually thought the G12H was in the greenbacks "family".

I do plan on trying my AFD with a few of my other cabs. Just been a little lazy .. they are not all located in the same place.
I think I will wait until I get the YJM .. then I will try both amps with the 1960AHW, 1960AX, 425A, V30 and maybe a G12T-75 cab.
Maybe I'll do a little shoot-out :smoker

Wouldn't the V30's overpower the G12M's ? V30 = 75w and G12m = 25w
I would assume you would be hearing a lot of the V30's ... for recording that would work of course.

Using two amps would work well using the stereo switch using this cab setup.

You seem to be doing a good job researching the right cab solution. It is very important as it has a lot to do with your final sound.
That's why I have so many different cabs ... I like using different cabs with the same amp for getting different results depending on what I am after.
