Waiting for AFD

Postby Encore » 17 May 2011, 15:22

Hello! :howdy
Trying to become a new Marshall amp owner, but I didn't think it will be so difficult to buy an AFD100.

One month ago I got enough money to buy it, so I went to biggest music store in Europe in Koln. Crossed two countries (over 1400 km and two days on the road) to get there, but unfortunately all of AFD100 were sold out at that time.
Guys in the store said that there will be 40 new AFD100 available month later, so I decided to make a pre order and payed a FULL price of it, so (as I thought) they will keep one AFD for me when it arrives!
But today, after I asked that guys if there are available AFDs already so I can take the one that's mine, I got the answer by email. And the answer is "Unfortunately there were only 5 AFD100 instead of 40 and they are sold out already. Next AFD100 delivery will be in September" :doh

That should be my first tube amp. I've got an 1960AV cab already but I guess it will be too difficult to wait four month with a headless 1960AV in my bedroom. :scared
And now I am not sure that I will get my amp even if I will wait till September. Maybe in September there will be another 5 AFDs?

P.S. Sorry for my crappy English.. Just had to write it somewhere. :dunno

Onza_Jk, thanks! I hope so.

surfnorthwest, thank you! I've just wrote him a PM.

gtrman, it's very useful information! It will be about 1950 km to get there, but if I don't find it anywhere else I think I will check out in Oslo.
Anyway it would be funny to drive through an half of Europe trying to find my AFD.

And of course you can probably buy it online from the store in Olso and have them ship it to you.
Should be cheaper then gas and save you a ton of time.
Here's a link to the store:

Thanks for help! :Cheers
But if I will buy it online from the store so they will ship it to me, I'll have to pay taxes for it. It's about 40% of price of amp. So I prefer to spend this money on gas and buy it by myself.
Andertons in the UK would be great but I have a Schengen Visa so can't go to UK.

I think I need to calm down a little and think twice which way is the best to get this amp.

Well, I've thought twice and decided that the best way to get this amp is just to wait for it till September. :bgrin

But I'm not going to wait for it with a headless cab. I want to buy another tube amp.
I thought that it will be a Vintage Modern but couldn't find any VM in my country! I called by phone all music stores that I could find but no one VM left there! In some stores they said that if I want a VM I have to wait at least for three months! It seems like Marshall amps don't want me to buy them.

For now I'm going to take a look at Marshall MA 50/100. It should be a great amp for me to understand what a real tube amp is like and how to play it (after MG30), right?

What do you think about it? Any advice will be appreciated!

Class 5... you'll love it later as well...
I mean... while I really can't stand the Haze and MA (I even prefer AVT to those), the Class 5 sounds like a real high-end Marshall... only smaller. I was really impressed with that thing... and it truly does work like a proper tube amp, old school.

Wow! Thanks a lot! :clap
Just checked out this amp on YouTube. I think that's really what I need for now! Guess I'll get a combo amp and plug it in my cab sometimes.
I don't know why but I've never noticed this Class 5 amps. But that's going to be a great practice amp!

-- Sat May 28, 2011 12:51 am --

I've got Class 5 combo today, and I am disappointed. Seriously, I don't want to be like a "Cry Baby" in this topic, but this amp is not what I've expected to be. :dunno

The clean sound is great! But I couldn't get a good overdriven tone from this amp. I've tried to play through my cab and combo speaker, set the volume to 10, tried to boost it with a Boss DS-1 and Boss GE-7, but still it wasn't the sound I wanted to hear.

Little later I realized that I did a little FAIL - I've forgot to connect amp to my cab properly. I've plugged the 16 Ohm output from amp to 4 Ohm input in my 1960AV cab! :doh
Hope it is not really critical... :pray

Anyway I will test the combo on this weekend. But after my first impression, I think I'm going to try and change it to MA50 combo/head.
