AFD100 Cabs with mixed speakers

Postby dezng » 29 May 2011, 08:43

Hi guys

Currently, I'm running my AFD through a 2x12 Marshall 1936 cabs loaded with a V30 and a G12T-75. As much as I am digging the bass response and the chugga chugga, I'm sometimes bothered with the piercing highs and the scoop sound from the 75. I'm considering swapping out the 75 for something more classic sounding. Looking at either a G12M greenback or the G12H30 Heritage but read from somewhere that the V30/Greenie combo wasn't a recommended choice. Anyone here tried that combo or a V30/G12H care to comment? Or should I just get another V30?

A very under appreciated speaker in the Celestion line is the Classic Lead 80, I find it to be just excellent for anything giving its very neutral flat response and power. If you are staying with that 2x12 buy one Classic Lead 80 and see what combination you like best. I think you will like it paired with the G12T-75.

Yes! Do as Surf says! THe Cl80 is a part of the afd sound that people dont recognize. It was most likley the speaker of choice when recording appetite. I have a 2x12 with a g12h30 and a cl80 and with my #36 clone amp, it nails the afd tone(better than the afd100 i must admit)

But go here and check these guys out Warehouse guitar speakers. They have a line modeled after the cl80 and it is half the price and these guys know their stuff and are a small company that gives a shit. Everyone says their speakers sound better than the origionals they are modeled after.

But yes, cl80 all the way
