AFD more sensitive to mobile phones?

Postby Mats A » 13 Jun 2011, 14:23

My AFD100 seems very sensitive to mobile phones and makes these noises when someone is using a phone or they are around. Is there something in the construction of the AFD that makes it more sensitive to these things?

It probably is your guitar picking up something in your house. I had the problem about a year ago where you get short bursts of noise from the cell phones.

I traced it to the cell phones interfering with my wireless network and then my amp would sound off, pissed me off too. I would be in the middle of recording something then tick tick tick.

It all stopped when I bought those wall warts for wireless where your network feed through the electrical wiring in the house. Ever since then I never hear it anymore and there are four cell phones in my house.

My phone does it too. Although I can make it stop, if it's on the 2G service any speaker around wil let me know of incoming calls/texts. If it's on the 3G serive nothing.

I think part of it may just be the higher gain on tap?

I've had that happen too, the other week at band practice the AFD started transmitting crazy beeping cellphone-talk noises, and it turns out it wasn't even a call or a text, just my phone talking to the network.

My amp only does it when my phone is either on me or within 3 feet of my guitar. Its definitely more to do with your pickups than the amplifier itself. If you've ever used a TV remote near your guitar pickups you'll hear the same kind of sounds. My 2nd Jay Turser with stock pickups is more prone to this than my SD Alnico 2 equiped Jay Turser.

My JVM pickups up radio or tv signals when alot of gain i used.
My Plexi picked it the other day when i used my wah pedal and left it central, perhaps it's something todo with all the high mids the amps got or maybe the loose ground wire in my guitar haha, i dont know.

I seem to sometimes get these weird sounds even between songs when i have the volume on the guitar rolled down to zero. And it´s not at home it´s most often when i rehearse at a place near a flight control tower at our airport. And at other places i rehearse too but it´s more seldom then.

I don't think the pickups effect it more so than the amp. The sounds come through my monitors, and the monitors at my school as well. I'm sure pick-ups would pick up the signal too. If I have my phone on my amp it'll go nuts and let me know I'm getting a call ahaha.

But like I said, only when it's on 2G.. I dunno why the sound isn't present around speakers when it's on 3G.
