Strange thing

Postby kissfanps » 16 Jun 2011, 09:26

So I plugged my AFD into the greenbacks on my VM obviously keeping the volume very low at bedroom level. The load is 8 ohms so I plugged the speakers into the bottom jack of the pair that said 1x8ohm or 2x16ohm (bottom or top shouldnt matter, right?). Anyway, the speakers gave me a little bit more low end and a little more clarity. I think I see a 4x12 with some greenies in my near future.

Now something strange happens when I power down (plugged into either 2x12). I flip the standby, then the power. After like a second, I get this very brief moment where sound comes through (when the power is off). Is this normal?

Think this is normal. When i turn off my AFD or other valve Marshalls the sound comes back for a short while.

Must be normal yes .. same thing happens to me as well. I always remember to wait a few seconds before unplugging my guitar ...

Love those greenies with the AFD ... i prefer that to V30's event though those sound good as well.

What I do is I'll turn it back to standby when I'm done playing & wait a few seconds then switch it off, not sure if it makes a differences on tube life when all is said and done but I just reverse the start up procedure as a good practice :).

That's good... I was also wondering about that... I've never experienced anything like that on any other amp I've tried before.

It doesn't matter if you turn off first, then flip it on standby... but yes, it is a good practice. I do the same, except I don't wait a few seconds. I just flip the standby first, then turn off the amp.
The reason you put turn on a tube amp while in standby is that you want the tubes to heat up before slamming hundreds of volts onto the plates... so if you disregards the good practice part of it, there is really no reason for operating the standby switch before turning the amp off. :Thumbs
