Question for AFD Owners...

Postby CBoothe » 26 Sep 2011, 14:46

AFD Owners: Check out the vid below.

Is Slash using the AFD here or the Silver Jube? I would assume the AFD, but both are plugged in and miked. You may not be able to tell in this vid, but in another from the series, the camera pans back and you can see cables and mikes for both amps and both are lit up.

Whats your guess?

I really dig the tone- it sounds bedroom level, but full and crunchy. But a bit darker than the AFD demos I've heard.

I know the jubilee can produce sweet, sweet tones... but I'd be surprised if that wasn't the AFD100...

I'm not an AFD or Jubilee owner...but I've spent many years listening to Slash's Jubilee & live GNR concerts, I'd say without a doubt thats the Silver Jubilee with KT88s.

Jubilee is on... that tone is his Silver Jubilee that he had KT88s put in, hence that thick sound. Its the Use Your Illusions tour tone from 1991-93...infact its one of 6 amps he used on that tour as well as one of the same 6 amps that survived the St Louis Riot show in 91.

AFD has a lot more bite to it. Clearly the Jubilee to me, the amp in the clip. This amp loaded with KT88s is the very reason nobody on youtube with a Jubilee or Slash sig can get near Slash's 91-93 Jubilee tone.

Slash never used the EL-34s in his Silver Jubilees on the Use Your Illusions tour, the secret was always the 88s, because it gave him more head room & a creamier tone.

It doesn't sound like the AFD to me.

It's a bit grainier and less focused than an AFD, and to be honest I didn't really like the sound all that much. I guess it's the Silver Jubilee.

Well not really sure but one can see that the AFD´s both power and standby switches is turned on. Many things can affect tone but i don´t see any of the cabs beeing miced. It might as well be the AFD.

Here's a couple more links from the same session.

The first is Slash talking about SCOM and playing a little. The second Slash is just talking.

In both, the camera pulls back several times and you can see both cabs miked and lights on both amps. Hard to tell with the standby switch on the Jube due to the color though.

I like this tone- the Slither one.

I would assume with the AFD being new that it is the AFD, but it just doesn't sound like the other demos.

Listen to Slash 1992 Era thats the same Jubilee tone. AFD is a lot thinner than that tone & more bite no matter what you're on AFD or #34 mode.

He used the Silver Jubilees on the Ellen Show last year as well, same tone again.

No lol but I watched the clip of Slash playing "Gotten" on the Ellen show on youtube...just the song nothing else :Thumbs

But honestly I'd much rather watch Ellen AND shove bamboo under my finger nails than watch Rosie O'Fatass Donnel.

I´ve recorded to compare and my AFD doesn´t sound any thinner than the JVM or Plexi Reissue. Maybe even fatter sounding on AFD mode. I couldn´t see the cabs were miced.
