I have the same feeling about my Lollar Imperials. They made a huge difference to my LP (had 500T and 498R in before). They are PAF style, lower output (57 specs) and are fantastic, clear, open, bright with a really full bloom (I hope I have not used every cliche for sounds).
Anyway, I highly recommend them (have not tried the 57s though).

lollar makes the best P90 pickups on the market.
P90 are very midrangy and most of them get muddy,lollars are
the best in staying clear and articulate. At first he only wanted to built
guitars but the demand for his pickups became so big that it turned into
his core bussiness.Nice guy that came a long way, i am happy for him everyrhing
turned out well for him.

I just read an article on him in Premier Guitar. Turns out he got his start at a guitar building school that's not too far from me (Roberto Venn).

You forgot the most classic of tonal cliches' "mojo"

the 57s are wicked. surf was giving them props so the next time i was in a GC i plugged into a VM with a gibson loaded with 57s and i was truly amazed. They have more bite and sustain and are very clear with dirt. The burstbucker pros which i own as well, are a little smoother and sweeter but for gritty lead and blues i love the 57s. The only pickups i would consider ever trying are a set of WBs (probaby vintage PAF) or the WCR crosssroads. Its just they are hard to find on ebay and i am hesitant to try them and waste my money when i am already happy. I still think botique is all bullshit with their insane prices.

In holland a pair of gibson pick-ups cost 232 euro.
My bareknuckles which are the most expensive model of them cost 295 euro.
So not a very big difference prisewise with gibson.
Both is alot of money for a pair of pickups , i think soundwise it is a big difference!
I guess that is the same discussion when somebody claims his squier guitar sounds
nicer and better than a fender custom shop quitar......
