Anyone tried the Tony Iommi Pups by Gibson

Postby Road King Police » 07 Jun 2013, 21:19

I'm re-tooling the Les Paul Custom. Going with some Schaller M-6 tuner pegs, basically because it a direct replacement except I wanted black chrome. Going to add a Stetsbar whammy bridge. And thinking about the Tony Iommi signature pups. Anyone tried them? Don't want too much output, but could dig a bit more than the gold buckers that are on....don't know what they are...a Gibson standard for the guitar...they were replaced once long ago and I don't remember what they were or are. Gibson rates their output pretty high, along with their Angus signature pups. Anyone out there please chime in.

I don't have any experience with Iommi pups, but I absolutely love the Angus pup.
Many Marshall's, and I want more.

Simply amazing! Thats all I can say. My tech swears by them in LP's. He installed them in a ESP of mine and was blown away.

Didn't Chuckmehh do a comparison with the Iommi, Homewrecker, and EMG's a while back?

Scanning the globe, as usual, opinions run the gamut. Some folks don't care for a more compressed feel and sound that is resultant from increased voltage/output , like from the Suhr. It always helps to have a specific application. For me, I have original tunes that I need to groove in to, but always, a pick up has to have an 'open' feel to it. And yet, the active EMG's in my Schecter Stiletto Classic have a nice mix from bridge to middle, to neck. Great guitar, by the way...the Gotoh tremelo is a frickin' paint brush. Not made anymore.

Haven't found it. Hah...there's a free flow of consciousness happening from the Marshall Amp forum...no? Searching that forum provided the reference of the Iommi, Homewrecker and EMG. The Iommi was more clear than the other two, to my tinnitus ridden ears.

I find the Suhr to be very clean and articulate. A very open feeling. Every note rings out beautifully. I have so many different p'ups in many guitars and for me, the Suhr Aldrich beats them all. I have moved away from anything EMG. I found the Duncan Blackouts in my Schecter Black Market custom just made the EMGs sound like they are lacking. But Im not into active p'ups any longer. I want to try a set of Motor City and Bare Knuckle p'ups.

I may have to try a Suhr Aldrich set in my LP. I'll give Rayne a couple more weeks then it's on to plan B.

I have a TI in a black SG 24, it was a special run from AMS. I don't care for it. It doesn't seem to be high output even thou it measures high. Plus the 2 side mount feet are very short so you don't get much height. It might be best for very light gauge strings like TI uses 8's. I've replaced it with a dirty figures which seem to put out more. A lot of custom's come with 490 & 498T
