LP Wiring Issue - please help!

Postby HappyBlues » 03 Jul 2009, 02:49

So, my wiring in LP went terribly wrong... There is almost no sound coming out... A friend of mine who did the job used only two of three terminals on a Volume pot... He soldered ground to the bottom... Is this correct? Is there any chance this wouldn't work on Gibson 500K push pull pots? Help please... we've got very important rehearsal befre whole-week gigging tomorrow and my guitar can't play...

if i understand you correctly then he grounded the pot casing but did not ground the lug. the third lug i assume is ground so if that is not connected then it will have to be grounded aswel as it is not connected to the case internally. and if the signal ground is not grounded you wont hear anyting.
Everybody seems to think i'm lazy.
I dont mind...I think they're crazy!

If all else fails, dont forget that you can "cook" pots by leaving a soldering iron on them too long. This will produce a very weak signal, if any at all. I did that to one of my favourite guitars within two days of getting it, as was NOT a happy boy. Wont make that mistake again.

RS Guitarworks is having a 20% off 4th of July sale right now. I just ordered the Pre-wired premium vintage wiring set. Just in case you can't get the problem figured out.
