Ordered some Skatterbrane pickups...

Postby LivewireBlanco » 17 Jan 2010, 20:31

Should be in by the end of the week. I'm putting them in my '09 R8. The BB2 pickups sounded very musical but in a band situation they just didn't cut it for me. I'm hoping that the Waterbranes will be just the ticket for me. Anyone every try Skatterbrane pickups?

Haven't tried them but I've read many good things about them. Be sure to let us know how they sound.

I was wondering when you were going to get tired of those BB :barf

Let us know how these other ones go, I still think the 57s work well but I am being tempted by Bareknuckle Steve Stevens again :dunno

I dig the musicality of the BB1&2 but they just didn't cut through well in a live situation. I'll make sure to let everyone know how they sound.

I found senior sweet spot!!! Holy shit does the bridge pickup sound good. Nice and clear with great harmonic overtones and a bit of mid range bump. It's definitely more full sounding than the stock BB2. I'm still dialing in the neck pickup but it's coming along and I'm very happy with the Skatterbranes. :Thumbs

I was coming back to bump the thread and say "hey man what about them Skatterbranes?" to find out you already updated us. :Thumbs

How are you dialing in the neck pick-up? Are you adjusting the height first to see if that will give you the tone you want? In my experience minor changes can make pretty drastic changes in some pick-ups.

I am dialing in the height and I'm finding that they like to be lower than my other pickups, somewhere in the area of 1/8" or a hair lower. Some people like to start low and go higher until they hit the sweet spot but I like to start high and go lower but you will definitely know when you hit it!

Sorry, no soundclips. I don't have any real recording equipment except for a Line6 pod thingy dealy that goes straight into the computer. I may try this to see how it sounds but it won't compare to how it sounds through a tube amp. But, if you go to the Skatterbrane website there are lots of clips in the reviews section.

Waterbranez are select A2 magnet with modern nickel/silver cover. Basically a Earthbrane with a regular cover and not a PAF correct one. Whoever coined the turn "note bloom" hits the nail on the head for describing this pickup.
