anyone else think think the neck position seth lover model is a bit muddy, tried all sorts but my neck pup is muddy as fuck ,gonna have to change it soon ,the main reason i chose them was they sounded the most like mark knopflers58' les paul tone ,but now i think it's getting too dull, muddy and woofy in the bottom end, i want to keep some warmth but a little more clarity,
well waddya think

Before you give up on them try adjusting the height. This can make a huge difference if not set up right.

Lot of good youtube videos showing how.

yea the height is about right ,tried pulling the bass side back a bit and taking the poles down but still too much bass and mud, i'll look into it further though before giving up .
seeing as your a knopfler fan i'll say these pups are good for the golden heart album stuff just right ,my les paul has 50's wiring and it all works a bit different you can blend the tone and vols a bit they seem to bleed over to each other but this les paul is a dark instrument anyways ..i'll get there
surf in your sig you say you hate jj's can i ask why?, i have my own bugs to bare with jj's as the 12ax7's i bought all but 2 fucked up and started to rattle within a few days of fitting and they were not used a lot ,unreliable i think
whats your story??

Drop the pickup down and raise the pole screws to brighten it up a bit. If that doesn't do it for you, replace the A2 mag with an A3. That should brighten it up. For brighter and tighter on the lower frequencies and A4 will help.

You could also experiment with adding a high-pass filter, make variable or switchable with a push/pull pot. Oh and the biggie, make sure you have at least 500k pots. Try disconnecting the tone pot.

Tons of cheap ways to experiment other than replacing your pickups constantly. A2 pickups IMHO suck ass in the neck position.
