I bought a Les Paul Standard in 1990 for $900 cash and a Kramer Pacer with EMGs.
It wasn't until 5 or 6 years later that I had the stock pickups replaced with 57 Classics and what a difference that made for clarity and an overall better, bigger tone with much better note seperation.
But I agree that it would definitely be worth experimenting with adjusting the current pickups. I understand the height adjustment but I wonder about the individual screws on the humbuckers....
