Best Overdrive or Distortion Pedals for YJM100

Postby John 14:6 » 18 Apr 2012, 13:01

I sent my defective YJM100 back to the dealer and I am currently waiting on a replacement to arrive. I already have a Modded to Grey 250 Specs DOD YJM308 overdrive on my pedal board, plus the YJM100 has the built in boost, so I want to add another tonal flavor to my board also. I am thinking about a TS808 or similar boutique versions, or a vintage or modded Boss SD-1 overdrive. I am even considering a Wampler Plextortion or a Suhr Riot pedal to give me back some higher gain sounds that went away when I sold my JVM to get the YJM. I have read that George Lynch used to run a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal into a Plexi. Your thoughts on this will be much appreciated.
Friedman Smallbox 50, Fender Yngwie Malmsteen Strat, Fender Jeff Beck Strat, Fender 63 Relic Strat, Fender 56 Heavy Relic Strat and a bunch of pedals.

Not to say that I could offer a comprehensive guide, but I'm pretty happy with the xotic B.B preamp and the vanilla Tubescreamer TS9 for the rougher stuff. Still in the process of seddling for the one or the other. The BB is a bit more versatile and can be anything from sweet to in yer face while the TS9 always has it's unique mid-rangey sound.
The xotic AC booster does a great job for Thin Lizzy balladesque overdrive type of tones with the YJM, think "Southbound".

I am loving the TS808HW with both my Class 5H and YJM. I have it set somewhere in between the stock channel and the boosted channel and it's great. Just need a clean boost and delay. Can't believe I am buying pedals again. WTF.

I used a Rothwell Hellbender Overdrive Pedal with my 1959 and was the only one that ever kept the Marshall tone. I now use it with my Vintage Modern and it sounds good with it also. Really my favorite overdrive.

Marshall 2466 - Marshall JMD1 - Marshall 1987
No one wants to hear 64 bars full of 32nd-notes except the douche-bag blowing them from the stage.

I like it with a Colorsound overdriver wich my brother built. I also got a Boss Super Overdrive i bought in the 80´s. A Tube Screamer should work well also.

Or turn up the volume to 10 and the EPA up to full power and you wont need any overdrive or distortion pedal. At least with a guitar with a Humbucker.

You could use an attenuator like the Power Brake.

This is a really good overdrive pedal... I mean... really good.
I sold mine though but that was because I've found a couple that suits me better...

I listened to some demos and that pedal sounds REALLY good! I'm probably getting one. Thanks for the tip!
