Best Speakers for YJM100

Postby Dwk302 » 24 May 2012, 01:22

What are the best speakers to pair with YJM100. I'm thinking Greenbacks or Vintage 30 (or something else perhaps??). Any help is greatly appreciated.

I play mine mostly with a 1960AHW with G12H30 Heritage and it blows me out of the socks each time I fire it up!
So this one would be my personal preference but it sounds good with V30 or G12H75, too. Really comes down to personal taste.

The amp sounds amazing with a 1960AX/BX cab with Greenbacks, really the only cab I have heard the amp with. The handwired cabs with the G12H speakers would also be a great match as those were the standard with so many plexi's years ago.

Lets not forget Yngwie uses G12T-75s with the amp. Personally if I had the amp I would first try a 425 cab with the G12C greenbacks.

The YJM100 just gets better and better the more time you spend playing through it Surf. I know that you already have Granger Plexi, but there are great ebay deals on YJM100's right now. The YJM100 beats everything I have played through before and I have been playing a good number of years. :jam

PS: I forgot to mention that I have a 2x12 Avatar vintage style cabinet loaded with a Celestion V30 and Celestion G12H Heritage. The speaker combo sounds great with the YJM100.

Well now my fingers are recovering i can give some insite into my yjm, tried it with 4x greenies and i thought it was slightly lifeless so swopped to the 4x12 with 2xv30 and 2x75's cab really comes to life ,more clear and punchy and thats the cab it will run through from now on,amazing amp ,shame i had to wait 3 weeks to have a go on it,i think as long as the amp holds up reliable wise it will be my amp for life. although a way huge green rhino gives a thicker boost that the on board unit and the 3 year warranty with marshall is all good. so give the v30's a go and see if thats what your looking for. :jam

Before I sold my 1959HW I did get to play it into my VM cabinet (425B). It sounded really good.

Hello! I purchased a Scumback 4x12 1960 replica cab loaded with four of his M75 Scumbacks (65 watters) specifically for my YJM and it just kills, man. :gangsta

Jim is such an avid consultant in providing his recommendations and I told him I wanted a cab and speaker combo to showcase the best a plexi can offer. He totally hooked me up in putting me into these higher powered GB-type speaker. I would seriously consider this option.

Peace. Mike

I prefer mine with my 1960BV with V30´s or my 1960BX with 25W Greenies. Though i mostly use an old borrowed JCM800 1960A cab with 75W for gigs.

I like the g12t75's and the G12H30's. I tried it with V30s side by side with the g12t75's, and they sounded VERY harsh and middy. I also like the B cabs better than the A's. I think the B's are nice because they add some bass and focus it a little more, which I think suits the yjm well. I would recommend any 1960b cab with g12t75s or a 1960bhw cab with G12H30's

I've been using mine with an '87 Silver Anniversary cab, with the 75 watt Celestions, though I'm not sure which exact models. I tried the amp in a store that had the modern "black" cab with some for of 75 watt Celestions, and the sound was "warmer" with more breakup than I get out of my cab, and it's a very different sound. Neither is "bad", and in fact I like the sound of it better if you tame the highs (my old "vintage" 80's cab...), different model?

...And aaaaaaaaa, did I just use the words "vintage" and "80's" in the same sentence, to describe the same thing? No!!! It's like the first time you hear Mötley Crüe on "classic rock" radio ("Oh no you just did NOT!"), or you're little and figure out there's no Santa, just old drunk homeless guys who grope "Santa's little elves", throw up in the Salvation Army bucket, and pass out sticking halfway out of the elevator...

Sorry, tangent. Anyway, love my "vintage 80's" cab with the 75 watt Celestions, whichever model they are... Thanks.

Jimmy

Trying cabs side by side is the best way to figure out which cab suits best for your amp.
Your ears can play tricks on you and you need to hear them side by side in order to really hear the differences.
I do this all the time when I get a new amp.

I have sold and bought a bunch of cabs the last 2-3 years.
Today I have this:

Marshall Celestion G12M Greenbacks - 4x12
Marshall Celestion G12H30 - 4x12 top
Marshall Celestion G12H30 - 4x12 bottom
Avatar G12H30 - 2x12 (slant cab)
Marshall Celestion V30 - 2x12
Mesa Boogie Celestion V30 - 2x12 (slant cab)
Mesa Boogie Celestion C90 Black Shadow - 2x12

I figure I'm pretty set but I might get me some Celestion Alnicos .. either Blue or Gold. Never tried one in person.
I do wonder how those sound with the VM/AFD/YJM ....
