Anyone compare a reissue 1959 SLP to a YJM 100?

Postby blindtonedeaf » 17 Feb 2013, 07:42

Here's my question

Has or does anyone here own both amps? If so any noticeable tonal differences?

I checked out a YJM yesterday and it was freaking awesome!

However I already own a reissue 1959SLP that has metro trannys and a metro board with sozo vintage caps no f/x loop, it sounds like God.It is much warmer than a stock reissue IMO

So I'm wondering if I "need" the YJM, as both amps are same circuit/filtering etc..?or are they different circuits?

I don't need the gate, the boost seems like a nice feature but I have a good dirt box and the power scaling seems cool too, but I have a great attenuator.

Thoughts?

I have both the 1959HW and the YJM100. I'm going to guess that the responses will tend towards the YJM, but in my opinion, if you're happy with running your rig with your attenuator, you won't see the power scaling as an improvement. That's my experience anyway. Love the features on the YJM, and no doubt that it can sound great. But if you don't care about the boost, the noise gate or the loop, and if you're tricked out your SLP to the point where you're happy with it, not sure that I see an advantage with the YJM for you.

They're vintage '54s. One was bursted at the factory in '58, the other original.

Checked out the link in your signature. Sounds great. Are you playing the SLP on those clips? If so, not sure I'd change a thing.

Sweet guitars!

Yeah that album was a mixture of a SLP , 77 JMP and class 5 combo

The song "Open wide and say awesome" was the SLP only, it does sound pretty good.
